Important
Information New additional
campus for Diamond Creek Memorial Community Kindergarten- Coniston
Street
We have been successful in our application to reopen the
the old Diamond Creek East Preschool at Coniston Street. This was a
state wide, comprehensive application process with the Department of
Education and Training (DET) involving an holistic application,
interview, re-establishment budget and transition plan.
We will be supported by DET and council to open in 2021 for 4 year old
kinder. This means Diamond Creek Memorial Kindergarten will have two
sites: 11 Collins Street and 28 Coniston Street . Opening
Coniston Street will enable us to meet the 1st preferences of all
families which we have been struggling to do over the past 5 or so
years.
The existing Diamond Creek Memorial Kindergarten educating team will
expand to include an additional teacher and Diploma trained
co-educator. The team will work cohesively across both sites to
maintain our strong philosophy and educational curriculum.
Procedures and
Reminders -No new covid procedures at this stage but we encourage
parents to wear masks as per government guidelines.
-Thank you to families who are letting us know if they are taking a day
off and why. We really appreciate it. We are checking all devices,
kinder mobile, email and kidsapp notifications as we realised we were
missing the kidsapp but we are onto it. We do send a follow up
text.
-If you child is unwell, we have received information to encourage
families to make contact with a GP as symptoms are so broad with
Covid19. Some GP are conducting phone consultations so you might
consider this to be an option.
Committee News- -We had a committee meeting last night so we will have an
update in next week's Thursday Bulletin
-We will be sending out letters of offer for 3 year old
for 2021 next week. 3 year old will be at Collins Street.
Kinder Life
3 year olds
have had a busy happy start to the term. Children have
enthusiastically had their temperature taken and very interested
in the green for go colour on the thermometer. Cooking sushi in home
corner has been popular and the sand pit is the ongoing favourite space
for many and our 3 year old group are very enthusiastic about sweeping
in, around and on top of the sand. Sand is a great exploratory medium
and working together to bury legs is amazingly interesting and
fun. Play dough making was embraced and the warm feel of freshly
cooked playdough is fabulous on a winter's day. All of this, well it
followed by lots and lots of hand washing .
In preschool,
children have been noticing the coming and going of their friends and
many children are able to recognise their own names but also names of
their peers. It's been a bit of a crazy week with no electricity on
Monday afternoon and no water today so we had to close. No water in a
pandemic is not practical.
The 'what's in the box today'
game has become a favourite and the quote of the week goes to George....
'It's a thing you turn over and over and the sand runs out or up, you
know up and down' acting out the action when trying to recall the name
of an egg timer. Frankie
whose turn it was to give hints bounced with happiness and declared
'yes, yes. You're right. I don't know what's its name is.' All
children cheered... 'yep, I knew that but don't know the name' Ryder and
Harvey slapped his leg
'I could see it (in my head) but didn't know what to call
it.'
Word of the week....'egg timer'
And so the game continues.... Ruby...
'what's in the box today?
Train rides took on a whole new meaning with the inclusion of a
train umbrella and a smaller group of children finally found a solution
for monster trucks rallying by using anything they could find
(reclaimed and recycled objects) to make the road 'keep going' but also
'cooly' adventurous.
